Heat Transfer Fluids (HTFs) are very often the life blood of a process unit. Without HTFs there is no heat, no production, no products to sell, and no revenue. HTFs are expensive to purchase but relatively inexpensive to maintain. Increasing the life of each facility’s HTF saves production cost, extends operation, production and is directly related to each organizations’ sustainability initiatives. This talk will briefly discuss HTFs, Sustainability, HTF degradation, re-use/ re-purpose of an HTF to extend its useful life, and potential cost savings.

Richard Beemsterboer is the Business Unit Manager for Heat Transfer Fluids for ORG CHEM Group LLC. Responsibilities include: P&L management for the Business Unit, technical consultation, product supply management, and team leadership. He holds a B.S. Science in Chemistry with a Business Emphasis from Northern Illinois University in DeKalb, IL. His employment background includes positions at Honeywell UOP, Univar Solutions, Refined Technologies, Inc., and 10 years + at ORG CHEM Group. He resides in Oak Lawn, Illinois with his wife Jan of 33 years and is a member of Parkview Christian Church.

Chicago Section of STLE Presents:

"Automotive Grease: How Evolving Vehicle Design is Driving Grease Innovation"

Bob Cisler

Engineered Custom Lubricants

Thursday, February 17th, 2022

Abstract:

Automotive grease technology is constantly being challenged to keep up with ever changing vehicle designs and challenging automotive OEM requirements. With most automotive greases currently being used in “fill-for-life” applications, the need for high performance specialty grease has become more important than ever. Now, with the growing popularity and shift to electric vehicles, the grease industry will once again need to adapt to the new technical challenges that vehicle electrification presents. This talk will briefly cover the history of automotive grease specifications, discuss and provide examples of the technical challenges involved in developing automotive specialty grease, and finally, discuss the important factors to be considered when developing greases for electric vehicles.

Biography:

Bob Cisler is a Sr. Scientist in the grease development group at Engineered Custom Lubricants in Aurora, IL and has over 25 years of technical experience in the Industrial and Specialty Lubricants business including positions in Product Development, Technical Support and Quality Assurance.
