We will discuss new ways to use current tribology test equipment for evaluating lubricants in all applications. Many developers of additives and formulations have used laboratory tribology test instruments for many years. But what are we measuring and why? Some users merely run ASTM methods, while others run in-house type test methods. But the real question remains, are these tests relevant to my application? This presentation will explore some of the existing methods for testing and introduce some more scientific procedures using current equipment. In addition to recent modifications, newly designed equipment and their applications will be discussed.

We are pleased to have Mike Anderson as this month’s speaker. Mike is no stranger to tribology having held numerous positions within Falex and STLE over the years. He is a past STLE President and also past Chairman of Chicago Section STLE. He is also heavily involved in ASTM and NLGI. He is a Certified Lubrication Specialist and is also a recipient of the Section’s prestigious Walter D Hodson and Allan A. Manteuffel Awards. Mike is currently Area Manager for Latin America and Asia Pacific and a graduate in Chemistry and Business Economics from Benedictine University.

Personal note: Welcome to the 2021-2022 Chicago Section STLE year. We hope to open up to regular in-person meetings in the near future. We look forward to your participation.

Best regards, Paul Hartsuch, Program Chair, ICL-IP America
